I went out in the woods near my house today. Found half a horse shoe, a mule shoe about 8" deep, a bunch of nails, a canning jar lid and the attached. Not bad for my second outing with my detector.

Is there any thing out of the ordinary for there not to be a mint mark on the back?

I learned something. The books say don't rub the coins with your thumb when you find them. Wait till you can properly clean them. Now I know why. I'll not try and rub the dirt off again. Got some fine scratches from the sand that was on it.
