all of the boxes were from loomis. i am not sure i know what you mean by "unmarked"

unmarked means that there are no ink stamp markings from the person who checks the box. Examples would be CWI Jan 1,2009 inspected by 2148, or just a rubber stamp four digit number like 5408. If the box is unmarked it will not have the rubber stamp markings

the boxes i get from loomis are never marked in any way like what you describe

Rich, I get my 8 boxes from Loomis which are all CWI boxes. Nearly half will have no markings and the other half will be stamped. My most recent stamp is from March 2, 2009. When the boxes are stamped, it seems there is nothing but clad with a heavy emphasis on 1995 P's. The unmarked boxes have yielded a few 40%. I've stopped my orders as I'm heading on a trip. When I return, I'll resume the orders, but I'll be looking for a new supplier. I'm looking to head to a different district for my supply.

I've been getting skunked on the unmarked boxes. CWI date stamped boxes are 50/50 for me. The four digit stamped boxes always produce, and have 90%ers in my experience.

Take a look at Mountainmans haul, that was a four digit stamped box.

Newbie question: are 1970-D's rare?

Not rare, just hard to find in circulation. It was one of the first JFK's struck in Denver Not Intended For Circulation. (NIFC) So finding one in the wild is pretty RARE. But they are worth around $10-$20

Awesome score on that 70D

Silvercop,

It was just matter of time for you to find one with all the boxes you search

Congrats

Wow, I thought I had a terrible week, 3 out of 4 skunks with the other producing 8 40% & 1 90%. Here you went thru 16 boxes to reap 22 40% & 3 90%. I by now way mean to sound discouraging but its an awful lot of hassle for alot of people for little gain. Dont get me wrong, I love the hobby but it seems alot of hassle for minimal rewards. Nickels and penny's are my favorite....always seems to yeild something interesting.

Your point is well taken. In many parts of the country, the hunters have given up on halves and concentrated on pennies and nickels. Spending gas/time on ONE box (1000 coins) to extricate a few of 40% and an occasional 1964 -- uhh no thanks.

its been that way for a few months now. when i first started i was pulling at least 100 keepers out of 16 boxes, now i am lucky to get 20.
