Today's 4 half boxes

Were stinky!!!! I did however find 1 1964 half, but it is also silver plated.... Why in the heck would someone silver plate a 90% silver coin? :icon_scratch: Hey I will take the however I can get them!!!! :icon_pirat:

The coins is a lot more shiny than in the pix, also the edge is screaming plated, it doesn't have the same feel as my mercury dipped half so I believe its silver. :tongue3:

Probably the same person who would have their Olympic Gold medal bronzed!

Re: Today's 4 half boxes

What does it mean when a coin is "mercury dipped"?

Last year I found a clad coin that was plated or dipped in mercury (like a science project or something). At first I thought it was silver plated but it kinda had a slimy feel to it (I don't know how else to explain it), I posted it on here and the over all concensus was that it was coated in mercury. I guess its not all that uncommon to come across them in CRH.

Mercury coated?

I would be very careful about that coin for health reason.

Re: Today's 4 half boxes

It doesn't sound like dipping a coin in mercury should work. Since it's a liquid at room temperature, and it's so dense, it should just roll right off a coin if you dipped it. Not to mention the health hazard it would pose. Interesting... -shrug-

I guess its like when you pan for gold and it has mercury on it, it just looks like a silver blob. Somehow it sticks and you need to burn it off.

TF, I use to dredge for gold some years ago and mercury does not stick to very many things like it does to gold. I still have some mercury so I dipped a clad half in it and it does not stick to it, but mercury will stick to silver. My guess is that it was chrome plated, but then again I maybe wrong.

Re: Today's 4 half boxes

I found a chrome plated 40% last week
