wasn't looking for rocks, this just barley caught my eye while walking back to my car from an appointment... the orange/pink color makes it interesting, is that iron staining?

Very nice find :-) it's quartzite with a nice little druzy vug. The red, in quartz, is almost always iron but sometimes manganese. This color looks like it could be either. That color to me looks closer to manganese to me.
