Todays finds AND What is it?

I found this old brass or copper piece in an area that has given up several Civil War artifacts, so I was excited when I dug it. It appears handmade wirh one rivet remaining. At first I thought handmade sword or bayonet hanger, but it's pretty thick and heavy. May come closer to a small hitch for a lawn mower or other garden tool! Anybody have thoughts on it? Thanks!
