Today at my favorite spot, Philadelphia. Early-mid 19th century home site next to an 18th century road-now-trail.

First find seems to be a lapel brooch or pin, unsure of the age but looks pretty old. Nice design on the face. Pin is intact but was bent during recovery, likely while pulling the plug. I stabilized it with a small amount of UV resin post picture.

AI photo search didn’t give any useful results.

Also found a military button, Eagle with shield clutching arrows and wheat. Reverse reads HORSTMANN BROS & CO PHILA.
Quick search shows this was made between 1859 and 1893.

I have found a Minie ball on this site before, so I am hoping more on the older side.

“Factories were built, first at the corner of Germantown road and Columbia avenue, and later on Fifth street and Cherry street, both in Philadelphia.

The firm was known by a variety of names: William H. Horstmann & Sons (1843-1893, Philadelphia), Horstmann Brothers & Company (1850-1852, New York; 1859-1893, Philadelphia)”

Great button and the other is a hat pin.

Thanks! Interesting on the pin! I was finding tie/stick pins looking closer but a hat pin opens up more search possibilities. What told you it was for a hat?
Seen lots posted, also have dug a few.
Been in collectables/antiques most of my life.
There's lots of variations for the hat pins.

Thank you for sharing, happy it’s a new item for me.
For all the items posted up, they're not all that common.
So well found.

Great FINDS :) congrats
