Re: Today's Silver....
I started at 9:00 till closing time. I had bank addresses for my out of town route to minimize the "running around". I really don't keep track of how many halves I go through.
The last couple of out of town all day searches produced over 100 silver coins so that was kinda what I anticipated at the start of the day. I was not disappointed at all. I just had different expectations. Like I said...it was a fun day.
I think I live in an area that has little CRH'ing pressure, although at times I see (marked rolls) & hear (from tellers) of someone out there. I would call this ALMOST virgin territory.
I had a pretty neat experience though yesterday.....at one bank that I do not have an account with I asked this young teller if they had any rolls....she opened her drawer and thumbed through some loose halves and I noticed two silver coins and she immediately put those back in her drawer & laid the clad out on her counter. I asked her about the two she put back and she said she was keeping them for herself....well the bank manager just happened to walk by & overheard this conversation. The manager chimed in and said they had many rolls in the vault. I asked to buy them which she politely obliged. I bought 50 rolls and she said she had a coin rolling machine in the back & when I was done searching to bring them in loose and she would exchange them for more rolls from the vault.....I thought "sweet deal". This was even sweeter because she told me when I came back to bring the loose coins back to the same younger teller and she would exchange them for me. I could tell the young teller was agitated but could not say much because the manager was looking over her shoulder each time I went back. I just stayed in the bank parking lot and went through each roll. I made three total trips back inside this bank and went through every roll they had in the vault. My floor board of the passenger side of my car was full of wrappers...lol. She even allowed me to bring in loose halves that I already had from previous banks (about 20 rolls) and cashed those in. When it was all said & done...I offered this manager lunch but she said she could not take it....I thanked her very much and stopped at the next store to find a trash can.
The moral of this story is....if you are a teller and you have silver in your try or drawer and a manager is near by.....you might ought to give them up. They should either hide or buy them, but not leave them where customers can see them. I feel if they are in the try/drawer...they should be sold if asked about them.
