Todd Lipe's Finds While Hunting With Carolina Tom

Todd Lipe asked me to post his finds for him. This is just another way for him to rub in the fact that he spanked me on Saturday, but that's OK because he took me to a killer place, and I found some treasure too.

Here are his Saturday finds. First spot, first 10 minutes, he digs an IHC watch fob (best find of the weekend IMO). There was a little piece of chain in the hole with it too. You should have seen the frown on my face when he pulled it out. It even looks like a little pocket watch... dang man!

After lunch we proceeded to his "honey hole" spot. A few wheaties showed up, then I dug a '34 Washington and was feeling good about myself until... he swooped in and dug a '41 Washington, followed shortly thereafter by a '39 Merc. The frown returned.

Give it very little thought, Todd. He whines like a 12 year old girl when he gets whooped on a hunt. But he's a softy and as much as he whines I truly believe he's happy for whoever his hunting partner is that puts the whoppin on him. I know this because Smittyman does it to him on a regular basis and he still asks Smittyman to hunt with him. You had another great day at your honey hole. Congratulations.

Hey todd, welcome to the site, nice finds, Tom gets very jelly very fast. I think if I found that fob, I'd put it in a long oil soak. Looks like it would clean up nice. I have a fob of my grandfathers that my mother gave me last fall. It has a Morgan in it, the knob on the top unscrews and the coin comes out. One of these days you guys should all ride up here and detect with me. Right now I have access to acres of farmland and also a untouched cow pasture. The cows protect the treasure and know kungfu. I believe they are protecting colonial artifacts and old colonial silver!

You didn't comment on the boots. Were you, or were you not out metal detecting with boots held together with duct tape? And did they not basically fall off your feet? LOL

I was born in the South, and my people are a resilient and resourceful group of survivors. We have an innate ability to overcome obstacles that would baffle ordinary "city folk". I routinely snatch victory from the jaws of defeat... with a roll of duct tape. I even got a duct tape merit badge when I was in the cub scouts.

As Todd Lipe indicated, I have new boots. I tried to glue the soles on but it did not work. After the second hunt in taped up boots, I gave up and went and bought a new pair. You should have seen the look on the guys face at the shoe store when I pulled out my knife and cut the boot off of my foot. Priceless.
