Your token looks as if it's from one of the presidential commemorative or so-called "presidential data" series issued around 40-50 years ago. Some were given away at gas stations, others at banks, and I believe some were also used as prizes in boxes of breakfast cereal. Later, they were also sold in sets or albums in gift and hobby shops.

Thanks PBK. I appreciate the information. With the information on the reverse, I figured it was some type of educational token.

LJ, cool token! I've seen some of those presidential token last year at a garage sale. A man had all sorts of coins and tokens, swords, military items; a huge collection. I didn't buy any of the presidential tokens but I did buy quite a few other tokens from him last year. I like all that stuff. lol ;D

PW - If you want it....I'll send it to you. Let me know.

I would say that that is very generous, but looking at your totals, you have found about 3.5 K worth of silver this year. I might be generous too in that case... :D

I think the token is cool, regardless of what you do with it. The casino I hunt tends to not allow any non-currency into their drawers... ;)

I found one of those while metal detecting, however it was James Buchanan. If I can find it I will post a picture.

what were they made of? I saw one for Kennedy in an antique shop in a little standing holder. looked copper. I think they wanted a buck or 2 for it.

Cool!
Wish it was a Grant Comm. - those are worth some $$$$!!!!
WTG!

I found this one MD,they was put out by readers digest and are made of brass. I found some for sale on ebay.
