Finally got a permission one of the longest ones that I have done 2 hrs, asked a landowner and low be hold the chattiest guy going and after driving out of the driveway I had to chase the real landowner across a golf coarse to the 10th fareway to ask the permission to do his lands. Lol When it comes to a permission I'll dodge a few golf balls. The great thing about wasting some detecting time was I got to drive through the fields to the site instead of walking a 1/2 mile through the brush and creek. So the first site didn't have a whole lot of targets usual harmonica reeds, bits of this and that.
So I headed across the creek to a buried foundation.Landowner said it was no problem crossing the creek, that's an 8ft board, I'm not jumping something two ft deep at my age.

Next target was a nice old hand forged knife blade

Then it seemed like that was it, a dry spell and nothing good was coming up until I heard that sweet sound again, flipping the large plug out there sat what I already knew a 1857 One penny Token

I dug this very sharp brass pen quill? No dumb ass! It's a point off a hunting arrow as no writing tip could be this big could it?Then after cleaning it up I'm sticking to a pen/writing tip.

I dug a brass thin disk with a large star stamped on it and finished the hunt with a knob off a tobacco jar lid. It was hard pasture, short early summer grazing for a few head so the field had 6-8" of hay layed down with tuffs 3 ft high. There's still two more homestead sites to be looked at, and then it will be a spring return hunt when this grass is dead. Some clean up shots.

Cool tokens!!!!! Nice finds!!!!

Congrats on some nice finds, looks like you're on a good site. Good luck

Thanks
I hope it will produce something more when the grass dies off.

Nice bunch of finds congrats...:icon_thumright:

Thanks PP

Those are great finds!
The ramrod thimble is a much better find than a pen in my books, well done
your return trip in the spring will be full of anticipation no doubt

Thanks Ironhorse
When you put it that way, yes the Ramrod guide/thimble is a better choice, I'm already thinking about the other two sites on the property and the return hunt for this one.

Very sweet, pepperj! Can't wait to see what else you find!

Thanks

a bunch of those 184os canadian bank tokens have been popping up lately. cool finds

Thanks

The tokens were the main stay of the economy up here in the early-mid 1800's for coinage.

Nice assortment Pepper. That is definitely a ramrod guide. And the large disk with the star is most likely the face of a bridle rosette without the lead backing. Of course if it were found on a Civil War site, it would certainly be associated with Texas troops :laughing7:

I'd agree on that one Steve, unless it was a little trinket kept while somebody homesteaded up here. Something like the GW button, Vermont copper items travel great distances and I've been lucky enough to dig them up.

Very well done PJ!

The tokens and ram rod guide are sweet finds. Congrats and good luck to you sir!

Thanks Tom
It's one of the better hunts I've had of late, actually most of the ones have sucked-for time out and results.

Awesome scores, I really like those tokens. I have only ever dug one here in Ohio from the Bank of Upper Canada.

Thank You LD

I dig them and not give them enough credit when I do, then don't get one for a longtime and I miss them.

Some glitch is preventing me in replying to posts or uploading. I usually like to thank each reply individually but it seems that I'm unable to do this, so thanks for the replies and the ID on the RamRod guide it's a first for me of this type.

Nice hunt PepperJ. Always like to see those Canadian bank tokens. Those are always fun to dig.

Thanks TH, I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, it was a good afternoon in the hay pasture. Doing some mapping on the sites on the permission and the old maps don't line up with the cellar holes so I think I missed the actual homestead it's in the other field. Now the itch is back... Time to do a recharge of the DEUS and go out again in the morning...justification...thinking hard....:laughing7:

That ram-rod sleeve is an interesting find Jim, definitely not something you find detecting everyday! :occasion14:
The tokens are in nice shape as well, they obviously haven't been rotting in animal urine like most of the coins I find these days. :laughing7:

Hopefully we can get together for a day long hunt before the cold weather sets in.

Dave

I'll Ram the Ramrod ID into you yet!:laughing7:
No worries about getting together for a hunt on the week of the 30th when your back down in the area( Prebooked on the must due list-permission granted-Lol). Got these 4 cellar hole permissions, and will get another homestead/school site further along the way for us to play on. The bean and corn might be off the other 5 cellar site permission just up the way from the Judges homestead permission. So put on the digging hat - fall is here buddy, just book a sunny day for hunting, I've really got a hate on for the rain this year.
