I once read some where that Tesoro changed the tone of the Golden Umax making it easier to hear certain tones within a range. Also the Tejon and Sand Shark have the built-in ability change theirs to suit your needs. Does anyone know if Tesoro has the ability to change a machine's tone if one were to desire a new tone? Im looking to have my Vaq have the same tone as my Outlaw and am wondering if its even possible.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Some places selling the Vaquero advertise a high tone version for $15 extra, so I am sure the factory could modify yours if desired.

Like Goldilocks and the 3 bears . The stock audio tone on the Vaquero is too low for most people and the upgrade 'high' audio tone is way too high for most people. The most liked audio tone by the majority of Tesoro detector users is the one on the Silver µMax. It's just right! Commonsense would tell you that's the audio tone that Tesoro should have stock on the Vaquero or at least be able to upgrade to would be the one like the Silver µMax has.

You can change the audio tone on a Garrett Scorpion (and other Garretts) by turning a pot on the PCB...high pitch to low tone....perhaps the Tesoro's have a similar pot? Should be fairly easy to check...although opening the detector box may void the warranty.

All this chatter about pot has made my eyes red and glassy. Anyone have a spare twinky or ho-ho? :tongue3:

Twinkies, they cause global warming.
Gonna do the obvious and call the good folks over at our FAVORITE metal detector co. Tesoro.

I paid the $15 to have my Vaq changed to the high tone and much prefer it to the lower tone. However, I haven't seen any references to changing the tones on other Tesoros. I personally would prefer to have all of them as high as the tone on the Silver Sabre µmax or Bandido II µmax which is higher than high tone on the Vaq and most others.

I agree about the tone of the silver umax. It IS just right.

But does Trump detect deep silver?

What is the different with Vaquero, high and low version of tone?

High tone version the tone is...higher.
I ordered my first Tesoro, a Vaq, with the high tone.
After I got a Compadre I realized I like the low tone better and I was going to change it but I decided against it for one reason...
It can tell me when I am swinging over can slaw instantly just about every time.
When I scan can slaw it sounds so tinny and obnoxious I gnash my teeth.
I put up with that tone because of that little superpower it has otherwise I would pay the $15 to get the lower tone.

Here is a vid of my Vaq with the high tone.

Yep I prefer the high tone better.
Thank you digger27 for great vid.

I am very hard of hearing & have trouble hearing certain tones more than others . I have used this item that will enable you to change the tones & volume .

Amplifier, Equilizer, KOSS EQ50, EQ-50 Portable Equalizer for Laptop, MP3, and Audio Use - Executive Communication Systems

Someone asked how this works .
You plug it in to your detector [ may need 1/8" to 1/4" adapter ]. Then, plug your headphones into it. Turn it on with detector & adjust volume , bass, & treble to suit you. This adds extra lengths of wire to your system, but you can strap the wires & control to the shaft of your detector, etc., etc. DON'T forget to turn it off whenever you quit detecting ! It really helps those with high pitch hearing loss.
