Tonights 2 boxes of halves 6-9-2011

Nice finds! The 1979d is a typo, right?

well im not sure im not a pro numismatist or anything, but it has the frosted cameo, the thickness of other proof coins, like the 87's and the mirror'd surface.

didn't all mints make proof coins prior to the NIFC time? maybe its just a really nice looking 1979-D then lol...I dunno.

I'll post a pic later going to pick up my dinner :-)

Probably just a nice coin. It wouldn't be a proof unless it has an "S". Also, only the 1987S is a proof.

if it is a that real shiny and then head is clearly frosted, and same with the back that is indeed a deep cameo. i have about 10, not really worth anything unless you find a cherry one. I hang on to them for the cool factor, you don't see many of them. And I found a 2009 deep cameo last week and have several from the 70's, 80's, and 90's....here is a pic for your clarification.

I think the shiny business strikes (i.e. non proofs) are usually referred to as PL (proof-like) or DMPL (deep mirror proof like). Cameo and Deep/Ultra Cameo (depending on the grading service) are for proof coins. I've been finding a lot of the UNC super shiny business strikes (that look like they were just minted) myself. They are good to replace the beat up ones in my albums.
