Tons of beaches...so little time - which machine do I buy?

Living here in West Central Florida, the choices seem damn near endless for hunting. This weekend I have plans to dissect our local park's volleyball pit and adjoining viewing area. This is all fine, but I really want to hit the beach area and scan the wading areas.

Suggestions on a machine that is capable of beach and water searches... if anyone can give me their two-cents worth on their experiences, I would greatly appreciate it. Having just discovered a MD store 1.2 miles from my front door will make shopping verrrry easy I suspect.

Hi there Dave,

I had the same questions when I started out(couple months ago)..
I ended up buying a Tesoro Tiger Shark..it works great whether you are 100 miles from water or 6 feet deep in it. (It is supposed to be waterproof to 200 ft deep) My only minor complaint about it is the headphones..dont care for them and they are hardwired in. Great machine and lifetime warranty.

*my personal opinion..others may vary* :)

cheers and HH,
Bob

Minelab Excalibur 1000, my personal weapon of choice for beach and water hunting.

I bought the excal 800 but the 1000 is the way to go.

I've owned and detected beaches in FL with a Beach hunter ID, Surfmaster P.I. (Plus), Classic ID, and a Excalibur 800.

Learning the hard way, I'd never recommend detecting the beach with a detector that isn't waterproof. I wrapped the control box of my classic ID with plastic and it still got a few drops of salt water in it. Had to ship it off to have it cleaned. Of coarse I detected aggressively, submerging the coil, detecting areas with where the surf breaks onto the sand.

I sold my Beach hunter and Surfmaster through consignment at Kellyco and bought an Excalibur 800. The beach hunter & surfmaster were good machines but I am most happy with the Excalibur.

I use the Fisher Impulse. Easy to operate on the beach in the surf or by a diver. Never found a place it didn't work well.

Many extra ditto's on the Minelab Excal 1000. However, the second choice is the less expensive and lighter Tiger Shark.

HH,

Sandman

Listen to Sandman he has had years of beach detecting experience and knows his machines well. Excalibur without doubt. seeya neilo. ;)

One more thumb up for the Tiger Shark.... Sandman pointed me in that direction and it was the right choice for me. I hunt fresh water.

Very happy with my 1000. However , it is stock and is a heavy, clumsy beast as such on dry land.Modifications can be made to improve balance and control(Check out some of Gravediggers posts/pics) However, I opt use my IDX on the dry.It is super light and has great signal response.....Good luck....Joe

All great machines. I still like my fisher Impulse. This is from a dusk to dawn beach trip last night. I'm going to be posting it in "Beach and shallow water later.
