This morning I decided to take my 10 X12 concentric
coil and use it on this site with my Euro Sabre. I used
a 5.75 when I found the mini balls yesterday. I wanted
to see if I could get deeper. I had mixed and frustrating
results.

Here’s my set-up:

The soil there is hard to deal with. It has been pushed
all around. There is a swell cut to drain water. When I
got in the cut, I had to turn my ground balance to the
negative 40 degrees to make it stable. Other places are
so full of trash, I could not get any depth. But in a few
places, I had to really dig deep.

This is gonna sound like a fish story. I almost hate to
post it.

I got a signal that sounded like a pull tab but a little better
and deep. You know me, I’ll go for it!!!!

After I dug about a foot deep, I widened my hole out to
make it easier to get the dirt out and make sure the target
was not in the side of the hole.

When I got to about 14”, I took a break and detected a
while. I came back to the hole and still got a signal right
in the middle of the hole. I decided to try one more time,
and if that didn’t work I was gonna put my 5.75 on and
check it out.

Well, the hole was 16” deep and out comes a pull tab!!!!!

I couldn’t believe it. I got my 5.75 coil out and checked all
the dug dirt and all around the dirt pile. I checked in the
hole.

The pull tab is all that was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I found today, minus the pull tab. I hunted
about an hour and a half.

This is why I like to keep the 5.75 on the Euro Sabre. In the
bad ground and/or the heavy trash, the 5.75 gets better depth.

The 10X12 was noisy. It just picked up too much. In the right
place, it might kick but.

I recommend the 10X12 for open areas with moderate trash.

LOL!!!!

At least yer setup is sensitive enuff to find small stuff way deep!
;D

Yep, imagine the time that 16 inch deep pull-tab comes up as a gold ring!

Been there and done that. Well, only about a foot, but it is frustrating. Monty

I am not prepared to say that the pull tab I found was 16" deep

Here’s why.

The hole ended up being 16” deep, but the last dirt
I removed was not at 16” in depth.

Remember that the hole was 14” deep before my
last dig.

The removed dirt was like in this drawing.

As you can see, just because the hole was 16” deep,
that doesn’t necessarily mean that the target was that
deep.

It could conceivably been 1’ deep, I think, at the least.

But you can make up your own mind about this.

It is hard for me to believe. That’s why I checked it out
so much.

Happy Hunting,
