This morning I decided to take my 10 X12 concentric
coil and use it on this site with my Euro Sabre. I used
a 5.75 when I found the mini balls yesterday. I wanted
to see if I could get deeper. I had mixed and frustrating
results.
Here’s my set-up:
The soil there is hard to deal with. It has been pushed
all around. There is a swell cut to drain water. When I
got in the cut, I had to turn my ground balance to the
negative 40 degrees to make it stable. Other places are
so full of trash, I could not get any depth. But in a few
places, I had to really dig deep.
This is gonna sound like a fish story. I almost hate to
post it.
I got a signal that sounded like a pull tab but a little better
and deep. You know me, I’ll go for it!!!!
After I dug about a foot deep, I widened my hole out to
make it easier to get the dirt out and make sure the target
was not in the side of the hole.
When I got to about 14”, I took a break and detected a
while. I came back to the hole and still got a signal right
in the middle of the hole. I decided to try one more time,
and if that didn’t work I was gonna put my 5.75 on and
check it out.
Well, the hole was 16” deep and out comes a pull tab!!!!!
I couldn’t believe it. I got my 5.75 coil out and checked all
the dug dirt and all around the dirt pile. I checked in the
hole.
The pull tab is all that was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is what I found today, minus the pull tab. I hunted
about an hour and a half.
This is why I like to keep the 5.75 on the Euro Sabre. In the
bad ground and/or the heavy trash, the 5.75 gets better depth.
The 10X12 was noisy. It just picked up too much. In the right
place, it might kick but.
I recommend the 10X12 for open areas with moderate trash.
