tool or weapon?

found this metal object today, found this plantation bordered the Tuscarora Indian reservation, very rusty but can still make out the shape for the handle,
flat on one end and rounded on the other . about 5 " long. anyone got any ideas?

I guess that would depend on it's intended use. Looks a bit like a single bladed ax head with the blade 90 degrees from where you would normally see one. Maybe used as a chipping chisel. It would make a pretty good tomahawk too! Maybe a mattock with the pick side missing?
