so just wondering how often you tot lot hunters out there hunt your tot lots? i hit mine up maybe once a month each. there are about fifteen around where i live but haven't found anything good out of them yet. i'm searching for that elusive gold. what have you guys found? do you know if there are other's who hunt your tot lots as well? i think there are a few here in my town that do and it might explain why i don't have great luck ???:BangHead::4leafclover:

Tot lots ( school playgrounds ) the best ones are filled with wood chips and are my old stand-by and use them when Iam in a slump of no finds for awhile. In my area it takes at least 2 months for anything worth looking for to show up and that is when school is in session in the summer they don't get much activity so I don't bother with them. I have pretty well cleaned up the tot lots in my area and I am sure some of them had never been metal detected. I have only found clad ( $ 5 in one ) in tot lots but a metal detected find of any sort is fun for me.

I've only found some clad coins and some buttons and stuff like that and lots and lots of trash. You gotta dig the trash before you find the treasure. I've yet to find anything but costume jewelry in a tot lot or ball field. I've seen lots of posts where jewelry is found at soccer fields and tot lots, but I only hunt them when my other spots are too full of people for me to detect. I like to detect tot lots and parks early, about 30 minutes before full daylight and later on in the day I'm gone when the kids are playing and the parents are doing their thing.

Well I'm new to detecting and I have been hunting tot lots almost exclusively. Ive been out 17 times since the the ground has thawed and 15 of those hunts have been on tot lots. They have treated me really well, I've found gold, silver and diamonds. I find them very easy to hunt, kind of like digging at the beach. Kick the gravel to the side and look for the target, no plugs to dig. here's a link to a thread I posted about my first month of detecting. I've found more in my second month but I haven't had time to post.

The tot lots I go to are all different I have some that are regular piggy banks and some are dry, but I have found a Gold class ring that I was able to re-unite with its owner although mostly I find Costume jewelry in the tot lots.In my area the schools are locked down like Fort Knox so when I refer to tot lot it is park playground. My best day in a tot lot was over $8.00 in clad and I believe I have these all to myself.

Canuck pretty much summed it up for me. I find jewelry and coins. You got to like foil to hunt them. There is no rhyme or reason as to why they fill up. But I suspect Im not the only one hunting them. My favorite trick is to put the 5" inch coil on and get under the equipment and work under the benches. I dig all targets. Try that and let me know how it works out for you. Its best if you hunt where others do not, but not always the case. I have only seen two detectors scare me out there, one was a whites MXT and the other T2. Those machines are very comparable to my F75. But there is a lil old man with a old bounty hunter prospector that will kick your butt. So its more about experience with what you got. The F75 is all the machine I need, but I always look right? Tot lots are fun, quick hunts. I give my finds to the kids that gather, except for the gold rings. Nice post. This was found today, 10' feet from a tot lot:

I did not find this, a T2 found this. Again, the T2 is a very capable machine, I am always impressed with what Jeff does with it. Jeff is the actuall finder of the ring.

You guys hunt tot lots with a sniper coil or a regular size coil?

I've used my 5" sniper coil on all my hunts. And like casca said, I dig nearly all my targets. You tend to get quite the crowd of kids when detecting and they love it. I also give them all my clad and toys that I find. I find the ones that are most productive are the ones attached to schools.

I sure wish I could hunt the school lots around here but in Florida they are all fenced in.:-( hoping they'll open them up one day for use by the public.i'm sure I'd find a whole lot in them.my daughter is a kindergartner and comes home all the time with change from her play ground lol taking after her mommy my little sweetheart.I'll have to continue what i'm doing and hope to strike big someday with some gold.I use an ace 250.very easy and works great.I dig every signal as well.there does seem to be a lot of trash but I do get the occasional goody. Good luck everyone

I hit up any playground I find in the different parks I go to. I usually just find clad. I recently found a skeleton key, and I've found foreign coins. But late winter this year it was kinda rainy so I took my Tiger Shark and went to a playground so it would be easy digging since I didn't have audio discrimination. I found an 8g 14k bracelet and a silver necklace! I've also found a silver ring about 20 feet or so from a playground that had produced nothing. I've found my best finds around the swings, my theory is that mommy is pushing her little angel on the swing set, then that little angels foot catches moms jewelry and rips it off for me to find!

Yup that's where I go first..the swing sets.I have found lots of earrings by them lately all being costume though.i'm determined to find the real thing sometime.gold of course...I have found silver but no gold yet.I'll keep going to those playground and hope somebody loses something soon.I'll be going out of state for a little vacation coming up and I will definitely hit every playground I can find.every morning at sunrise and I'll post my finds when I get back home.I hope I get something wish be luck
