I just got most of the gear I ordered to start detecting. My husband and I will be learning together. He retires in 3 weeks and we are looking forward to learning this new hobby. We live in Virginia (Fairfax Co), so have our expectations for target sites quite limited at first. I hope my yard survives our learning curve!

I've learned so much by reading the forums here. One day I hope to post photos of my finds.

Welcome to Tnet..webpRemember targets can be anywhere. Metal Detecting is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.:laughing7:

Welcome, don't give up and it will get better and better with time"th (56).webp

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm learning quite a bit here - to clean or not to clean, best practices, equipment must-haves, etc. My husband knows a bit about the civil war and is knowledgeable about electronics, so I'm really lucky that he is interested in detecting, too. I am sure that our yard will be practically excavated once football season is over.

I don't think there is a piece of soil in Virginia that wasn't touched by Civil War activity.
What machine are you guys going to be using?

Great selection on the AT pro. It will keep you busy. Welcome to TNET. What priviledge to hunt in Old Dominion State.
