✅ SOLVED Tough one - Decorative cover?

I'm not exactly sure what this is. It was buried over 16" and there was quite a bit of crusty iron on the back around the fastener before I zapped it. It looks to be plated brass and "crimped" around the iron piece. I think it might be part of a chest. Any other ideas?
