Tracks removed

I lost an 1880's Seated dime along the railroad tracks in Franklin Park back in the eairly to mid 90's (between Scott st. & the last station before Manhiem bridge). It was in a 2x2 cardboard flip, I bought it from a hobby shop and on the way home walking along the RR tracks I pulled it out of my pocket to look at it but by the time I got home it was gone, I walked back and forth like 10 time looking for it but it was gone... :'(

Now that I have a metal detector I still am not interested in trying to find it because I remember seeing all the RR metal crap scattered along the entire length. :tongue3:

Still waiting for the crap to thaw. Walked the area last week up to the bridge. This place is on my list to hunt first when it warms up. The area is wooded and steep next to the river but levels out good at 100 to 150 feet in. Will update as I find any S...tuff. DFW

Hunted here this afternoon, most of it was still frozen and snow covered but managed to get 1-nickel 2-zincolns(one was train flattened). Lots of railroad iron around. I'll go back again next week. DFW

Not sure where you are hunting, but you might consider that ,as I understand it, when the Lincoln funeral train came to illinois, people stood by the tracks and threw pennies at the train. I'm not sure that that is the fact, but I read that somewhere. Someone more knowledgeable than I am may know more about it.

wow, not sure if that is true or not, but the small cent had only been in circulation for really 8 years, (exclude 1856). That would seem pretty funny if people were chucking huge large cents at the train (would definitely border on disrespectful, depending on how hard they hurled them)

it was a "honor" thing -- to shower president lincoln's body with money

That was a real roundhouse punch line

Site will be under blacktop in 4 weeks. In 3 weeks they will be removing about 200 truck loads of the burm. I asked if I could bring a few buddies along to help hunt before its gone. Because this is company property I will be allowed only 1 buddy at a time to hunt with me(bad news). Don't know what we'll find(besides spikes and tie plates). If your interested send me a PM. DFW
