Transporting metal detectors on planes - any recommendations

To any folks that have travelled on the airlines with metal detectors, any recommendations for safe transport? I imagine there is no security issue with packing a detector in checked bags, but you run the risk of loss/theft/damage. Any issues for those that have put them in carry ons? Any advice welcome. TIA!

Call your Airline for restrictions.

From my experience ...
If you machine or pin pointer has Lithium Ion Batteries they won't allow them in the cargo hold.
These types of batteries are serious fire hazards - carry on only from what we were told.
Also, if you have a Deus - wrap the flashing light on the Coil with black Electric Tape.
The way the Coil light constantly flashes it could easily be mistaken for a bomb.

I prefer the 'checked luggage' option versus being delayed as an agent gives me 20 questions to answer while I'm putting my shoes back on.

I broke mine down and threw it in my checked bag, with no issues. Sand scoop and pinpointer too.
