I have a Vaquero but the park I hunt has so much trash the only way I can hunt is with the discrimination all the way up and all I can find are shallow clad dimes and quarters. What would be the best tesoro to get for this park? I love the Vaquero and will keep it for the beach.

Thank You
Jim

You may need a different coil instead of a different detector. Smaller coil to get between targets so you can pick out the better ones.

You might want to take a look at the new Fisher F-75. It has lightning fast recovery and you can wade through the trash and get the good targets without too many problems. When I get to a place that is to trashy for even my EX2 with a 5 inch coil I use the F-75 and start pulling out good targets that were masked by trash and it will go deep

This says it best where you have a smaller coil to only get one target under the coil at a time to id it properly. You will be able to turn down the disc. to "cherry pick" the best targets.

Good Luck

Any detector with a high frequency will do it (So long as the recovery speed is also fast), but a smaller coil will help a lot too. Either a polo (5inch) or an eliptical (10 x 5 inch)

They make both the widescan and the concentric 5.75" for the Vaquero. I don pretty good with the concentric on the DeLeon in razed lots where there's lots of trash and scrap metal. I also haven't taken it off since I got it about 4-5 months ago. Granted it doesn't cover anywhere near as much area per sweep as the factory coil but it does work through the trash a lot better.

My hunting partner uses a high end garret and I swing a vaquero . I always pull more trash then him but I also find more nickels. He dug one of his pass up signals the other day and it was a V nickel. I have heard that the smaller coils make a world of difference . I am gonna pick one up.

The Fisher F75 has a double "D" coil, so that hot strip down the middle just may work through the trash. If you dont want to drop close to a thousand bucks for one, get the smaller coil for the Tesoro. It will help

But since even a smaller coil may not be the final answer, another option - one that will test your mettle - is to REMOVE the trash you encounter. Now, doing this means you cannot wheedle about how much trash is there, or what a pain that will be. Instead, you will do it if that is what you must do to get to the good stuff.

Lucky for you, there are lots of options.

Small coil is definitely the best bang for the buck. I recently hunted a very trashy park with a slightly used (new to me) MXT. The machine went beserk from all the close targets. Fortunately it also came with a small 4X6 oval dd coil. As soon as I replaced the standard 9.5 coil with the smaller one I was able to work thru the trash without losing my sanity and eventually picked up a fair little batch of coins. I have several Tesoro umax machines and have done well with the 4" coil in similar situations. What you lose in depth, you gain back in target separation and the small foot print forces one to hunt efficiently which isn't a bad thing either.
Good luck,
Bill

I noticed this on the UMAX machines. I used a 4 inch on my DeLeon and it was a great seperator, but the depth was lacking.
BUT, the good thing about the new hot coil 5.75 does not lose much depth at all over the 8x9 coil. The 5.75 for the C,V, or T is the second coil you should have IMHO. It is a great little coil.
