Traveler's Medal

Hello all, been a long time since I've posted. I haven't been doing much because of time, but I did find this coin in the spring.

A friend gave me a tip on an area near Boston. I hit a minus tide and brought my sifter so I could get way out. I piled five targets into the sifter and when I brought the sifter in shallow to sort through my loot I was very surprised to see this old beauty!

This is definitely my best and favorite coin of my short metal detecting career!

The idea behind this coin was to protect the traveler during their journey. Saint George is on the front slaying a dragon and there are three men in a small boat on the obverse of the coin.

I found only one image of the coin online: NeoCollect - Nautical and Maritime Medals and Coins.

Happy Hunting,

Very kool coin!

Pretty cool! Nice research.

Thanks, I saw tons of pictures of St George slaying the dragon, but most of them were paintings. It took a long time before I tracked down that pic. With all the info out there on the web I thought it was odd to only find one pic of that coin.

Hopefully the traveler was fine after they lost their medal!
