There was a post on here once( Does coral beep) it turned out it was shipwreck coins inside the encrustation of coral.

Looks like a very nice piece to have your neighbor or good friend who happens to be a nurse, or radiologist or even a veterinarian take it to work and give it a quick look see with the x-ray machine! I have heard it has been done before. Good luck!
