My wife and I did a little beach diving this weekend at a really great little beach we found in Venice Fl. The city park has a great place to park, enter the water, and rinse off after the dive. There were lots of other divers there going after sharks teeth, which I found out, have some value.

We didn't find any of the 'Mega' teeth, but had a load of fun with the little ones, which can be worth $5 a piece. So, I suppose it's a bit of treasure, just lying there.

The next time down I'm going to poke about with the Sand Shark while she digs teeth.

It was a great time. If anyone ever wants to dive it with us, just give me a shout and I'll be happy to either give you specific directions, or take you there one day.

HH

What you have are fossilized sting ray stingers. Get a magnifying glass and inspect carefully, you will be able to "see" that each "serration" is in fact a barb.

I live in S.Venice all year round. Indeed the teeth are not as numerous as little as seven years ago. Thanks to the replenishing of the beach.

When I look for teeth, I use a floating sifter and a "snow shovel". I'll dig in one spot till I reach about one foot and plus.

I'm the guy with the White's Beach hunter and green 2 liter trash container on my belt.
There are still WW2 .50 cal. casings and bullets around Sharky's. Work north of the pier
Last year, after some rough weather, I found 22 casings and 6 bullets in one hole. I think they were sucked up and deposited at beach replenishment.

Newbi-wan,

Thanks for the ID on the stingers. I couldn't find that one in the book, much appreciated.

I was told, by the local lifeguards on the beach at the end of Venice Blvd, (after the Army airfield sign) that MD'ing on this beach can produce some of the things you are talking about. I learned the history of the area and it's quite interesting.

As soon as I run out of teeth on the sea floor I'll drag my SandShark underwater and see what metal is lying about.

If I see you out there I'll say hi.

found on the south east coast .

Hey GIB, Nice job on the necklaces. What kind of wire are you using-from a
hobby shop/craft shop? Thanks for the pics. HH Joe

Wailinmacs, nice tooth, it looks modern enough that the owner may still be in the area, count your toes.

Joe,

The wire is 24 gauge Stirling silver or gold plated jewelery wire from

http://www.peacecreek.com/bead%2520shop.htm

(or any other craft type store.) They also sell the beads and other stuff to fancy it up with. She made one with hemp string and dark colored beads (for the surfer dude son in law).

Thanks GIB for the info. Now I just need to get out and get the teeth.Good luck
on future ventures. HH Joe
