After getting to know this site a little lately, and going over the many topics covered here, I haven't seen or heard mention of the kind of treasure that I find. I'm sure some of you are probably familiar in some way with this type of booty but some of you might not be. The real loot for me in this type of treasure hunting though, comes in the form of sanctuary. There is nothing better than being in the deep woods alone in the solitude on a hot june day listening to the sounds all the creatures make while you sweat, dig, and work hard to collect your bounty. Then when " the shadows get long " and the air cools down, you hit your last number and head out to the road, but first along the way I stop and grab a stump with a good view, light up a pall mall and just take it all in. Often times I pick a spot that you can see for a ways and point out spots to myself in the distance that I have been. Some hilltops in the distances grown over with trees now I can remember walking around on them freshly logged when the kids were small looking for arrowheads, some valleys that come into view I can remember spending whole summers in digging cohosh or yams or whatever was selling good that particualr year. Sometimes I'll see new clearcuts that I havent been to and think I better get over there, could be a site up there. After reminiscing for a few I head out with the sun lowering itself to light the other side of the planet, and its about that same time when I start thinking about what treasures still awaits me when I get home. Could it be meatloaf? Roast and potatoes?
