SOMETHING TO BE AWARE OF. AT TIMES THE SPANISH WOULD COAT THEIR GOLD BARS WITH POISON IF THERE WAS A CHANCE THEY COULD NOT GET BACK TO THE CACHE. THEY KNEW THE FIRST THING WE WOULD DO IS GRAB THAT GOLD. SOAP AND WATER WILL REMOVE THE POISON FROM THE BARS IF YOU GET SO LUCKY AND FIND BARS THAT WERE TREATED IN THE WAY. THE SPANISH WERE INSTRUCTED BY THEIR KING TO TREAT THE BARS IF IT LOOKED LIKE THE TREASURE WOULD BE LOST. THEY WERE ALSO KNOWN TO PLANT GUNPOWDER WITH FLINT SO YOUR PICK WOULD SET OFF A BIG BANG WHEN IT WOULD HIT THE FLINT. JUST SOME DEATH TRAP HINTS.

so is there poison on the gold bars if the were off a shipwreck? please let me know as soon as possable!

I fail to see how an open pile of gun powder would do much harm...you would get a hot flash and lots of smoke, but no explosion unless the gun powder was in some type of container, correct?? I am confused about how this death trap would actually work and be a threat.? Kelley (Texas) :)

open black powder can cause and explosion..
and if packed into a rock crevise it can be used to loosen rock in said chamber causing it to cave..

also the powder could be hidden under the gold..if the gold is properly placed over and around the powder to encase it, when ignited would explode sending gold bar shrapnal everywhere, surely taking out evryone in the chamber

Wow, Poison on the bars. I have not herd that one before .
Thanks sgtfda,
Can you recommend any good reading material on Spanish treasures from Mexico?
Thanks Fernie

Black powder will burn when wet. I will burn slower much slower depending on how much mostier or water is in it. It also should be noted that black powder does not go bad and will still be potent after drying. It is possible that a cache could have been "booby Trapped" with an explosive mortor shell or primitive land mine.

This is starting to get real scary....gold bars flying in all directions powered by a black powder explosion.? To make it worst, if the gold was also laced with poison, you would be in real trouble big time!? ?How did the Spanish apply the poison to the gold bars?? Was the poison in powder form or did the Spanish pour a liquid type of poison on the gold bars?? This is really getting educational, lots to learn!? tejaswrangler

Kelley:? ;)
You think all of that is scarey,? ?:o?
? ?;)? Just read this...? ::)
:o GUN POWDER DOES NOT EXPLODE!? ;D

What do you mean..."Gun Powder Does Not Explode"???? Sure it does! Not just laying around...but it sure as heck can in the right environment...ie. when egnighted within an airtight container.

Black powder is made by aprox. 75% potassium nitrate(saltpeter) 15% sulpher, and 10% charcoal or coal. Potassium nitrate is very water soluable and when black powder gets wet the potassium nitrate is leached away very easily! sulpher is also water soluable and the same thing goes! after awhile if in an area that has high humidity black powder becomes simply coal dust! Also black powder burns quickly producing large amounts of gasses in a short time, if these have no where to go then eventually(fractions of a second) they breach what contains them causing an explosion! if the gasses are not trapped then you simply get a flash fire! 8)

Jeez, I guess I do need a partner to load up the gold bars when I find them. Jim Cal

Sour Grapes?
QUE Paso ?
But! You better believe Sour Grapes!
I'd give my "eye teeth to find some"
How about you?
But!
I can also, prove my statements..
Where did you get your info ?
How come these Spanish bars didn't poison anyone?
Do you have personal knowledge of this technique, not just second hand information?
I'd be interested in finding out!

The Spanish traps are real. But you have more of a danger of getting bit by a snake or falling off the side of a mountain.

The Spanish had instructions as to what to do in certain circumstances. If death or returning soon was not an option.

These were very clear and detailed.

Mostly poisoning was done on coins or bars when they were under attack. If it looked like they would not survive.

Yes, This information was obtained through the Spanish and Mexican archives. If you want your proof, I have a word for you- Mordida.

It means the bite or bribe. I few thousand later and I am a believer.

I realeased some of my information on All Treasure tales USA on the net a few months ago.

As for a tale of poisoning I suggest you look to Dog head peak in NM close to the border with Mexico. Better yet ask someone in Lordsburg NM about the wood cutter and his Spanish gold coins. It is in the Lordsburg Newspaper many years ago.

Is it to comp ex for you people to see? I good pair of waterproof gloves would work nicely, justify don't wipe your face or scratch your eyes. This is not rocket science.

But lets not get carried away.
There is more of a danger of your partner killing you if you find a trove, forget cyanide.
