Treble gilt standard colour, small gear and buck shot?

I've never seen a treble gilt identical to this,, pistol ball?

Only rinsed with soap and water. Not sure how to clean button or if I'm going to clean it. I have not clue about button history. Found button and lead ball next to Each other. Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't know about the button's history, but it looks like a nice find! Congratulations! I just can't understand why people loose so many buttons

Thanks. I have not been able to find one with the same markings and I'm hanging on the fence wether or not to clean it.

My thoughts it's an imported civilian button from around 1830+ ?

I agree with you Tipton. The spelling of "Colour" points to British make. I have a very similar flat button with the same exact wording, but no gilt left, that I found on a very remote part of the Forbes Road here in PA. (The road was a military highway from 1758, but was heavily used by settlers and traders for many decades after the capture of Fort Duquesne (Pittsburgh) during the French and Indian War.) That dates our buttons to mid 1800's at the very latest in my opinion.

Tipon - replying to you're PM.. I agree with you and Dragon.. The button from British origin is a Civilian button dating to the 1830s-1840s. The hunting frock coat in the picture which the buttons have "Treble gilt standard colour" dates to the 1840s-1850s and would have that fancy type back-mark, compared to the 1815-1820s "Treble gilt standard colour" back-marks..
