Tree Markings

Found these markings on some property my neice just purchased. It's in the route of early settlers of Kentucky south of the Ohio river.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd go back to the same tree and look around at all the other big trees. There may be markings on more than just that one tree. Just a thought. D. 2Thess 1:2 KJV
