Tree Marks...Treasure Sign???

These marks are on a large oak tree. Any idea what they mean?

According to land owner, there was an arrow formation of large rocks about 1000 yards away on a hill side pointing towards the direction of the tree, but it has been disturbed by cows and all over grow now , so no pic. Legend says that a gold cache was buried between 2 trees somewhere on the ranch.

I don't know what the mark you posted is. I am also seeking trail marks.
