Smith's MO Token Index lists this as Cape Girardeau, but gives no rarity or other information.

exactly where it was found in Cape-thanks alot John

I've never, ever, seen a triangle shaped token dug before, very nice!
I'd say 1890's, but 10 cents a loaf seems kinda expensive.
Very nice find.

Thanks Carl-yea i tried to guess the age of the token by the price of bread also and it did seem kind of expensive for the time period you gave me. but who knows. l just emailed a pic of this token to someone who may can help me. i will post if anything good comes from it. again good to hear opinions from people who know more than i about treasures.

The 1910 Census shows brothers Fred, 34, and Carl, 31, Bauer as bakers at 702 Broadway in Cape G. Living with them is a third brother, Christian, 24, who is shown as a driver of a bread wagon.

The 1920 Census shows Karl W. Bauer, 42, who has gotten married by this time, and his brother Fred, 43, each shown as "Baker - Own Shop"

Fred Bauer is buried in Fairmount Cemetery and his stone shows 1876 - 23 Apr 1926.

I don't find the Bauer brothers in either the 1900 or 1930 Censuses. I do know there was a movement among bakers nationwide ca. 1902 to move from the 5¢ loaf being standard to the 10¢ loaf. This met with consumer resistance, although I do think there was a difference in size making it less of a "price per slice" increase.
