Tried Mirage's cleaning method on 20 wheat

I found myself in a small town in Pennsylvania yesterday and managed to find a wretched 85 Indian Head penny and this 20 wheat, in addition to several other later wheats. The 20 was in really nice shape, so I tried the cleaning treatment that Mirage and his mates have described: ammonia, then olive oil. It did a nice job on this penny. Three other wheats and a handful of clad coins came from Mahaffey Camp, in use since 1894 and the beneficiary of my clad each year. The clad from this hunt is the first installment on next year's donation. I expect there is some silver there; I might get back on Friday to find out.

low DPI (dots per inch) big picture!!!!!!!

...............what you need is a higher DPI smaller picture,
try scanning in at 300% then cropping the image down...or resize a big high DPI picture to be smaller.......adobe photoshop.......is the best! Use "Image Size" in Adobe Photoshop.

****Remember when the scan/ picture is low DPI it can't be blown up to much without getting pixelated.........this is why Digital Cameras cost a bunch for a good camera.

Looks like a scanned image of the coin and the saved image wasn't cropped. You saved the whole scanned image instead of cropping out just the coin and it left all the extra white background from the scanner bed.
Even tho you only scanned a small coin, the scanner went across the whole bed saving the whole area of the scanner bed as an image.

You're right, initially I didn't save the cropped image. I've since made the correction.

The cropped image looks good ;D It's a nice idea that you donate your clad to the camp, I bet they really appreciate it. Kudo's to ya :)

I havent tried the ammonia and olive oil method to clean coins yet. I havent really found much anything worth keeping let alone worrying about cleaning up LoL The few coins I have found, my youngest claimed them and put them in her "treasure can" ;)
