Well on Thursday I decided to hit the local colonial hole for the day to get my fill as I knew I would be heading inland in search of civil war relics. I wanted to hit a specific stretch and explore a couple of old fords. Each one saw civil war activity and a little earlier as well. The day started off a bit slow but things picked up as I identified the first site that I was looking for. This thing was full of iron and so I just hunkered down and dug as much of it as I could. After digging one fired bullet (heavily impacted) and another, I moved on to check another ford. This was not the best decision, though it had to be made. After a 4 mile round trip paddle, I returned back to the scene where the iron was and my first target was...iron...just a bit pointed. It is funny how things work, the first target was indeed a nice CW bayonet #2 on the year for me. I stayed for a while and dug as much iron out as possible and soon other items emerged with it, wheat penny, more cw bullets, croatal bell, etc.
The bullets were weird, as not a perfect dropped surfaced. I had 1 hard impact, 1 VERY hard impact, 1 chewed, 1 flattened out (found a few of these now and like it) to the shape and you can still see the cavity.
One of the more unique finds was made at the end of the day. The coffee grinder handle with the wood still intact was a nice find. It could be from the camp, but also just civilian used and pitched, either way I like it!
Total finds were the bayonet, coffee grinder handle, 4 bullets, croatal bell, and misc. items.
