Had today off, weather was still nice enough, ground's not frozen yet, and Seated Park was calling my name. Hit a section with lots of hills at the bottom part of the park, just listening for those good hits I may have missed before- the ones with nails or other junk in there with the coins.

First good signal was the 45 Merc with a chunk of rusty iron in there with it. Not long after, another of those good/bad ones produced the little piece of silver. Holed and in rough shape, I still didn't want to scrape it clean, especially since I was thinking that I may have FINALLY knocked the 3-cent silver off my wish list. To my old blind eyes however, it looked foreign, but I figured I'd wait until I got home to rinse it.

Added an 1899 Barber and 1874 Indian before calling it a day (the Indian is soaking, but looks like it's in decent shape).

After I rinsed the tiny silver, my guess was (sadly) correct- it was foreign. My book on world coins seems to indicate it is a Peruvian 1/2 reale. Not the 3-center I was hoping for, but still a nice find. If anyone has any further info on it, by all means please tell me, as I am hardly a world coin expert.

Hope the weather cooperates for everyone to get out a few more times at least!

HH and enjoy the pics.

You, Ed and I could hunt dawn to dusk for an entire day and not come close to doing the bottom section- it's HUGE. You guys are welcome anytime- make it a certainty next spring if we don't do it this year.

Chances are, that there are 3 centers there in the Cape, but the little bugger you found from Peru is no doubt more of a rare find... Shame on me for not still living on the Cape... We could tear it up!!! I was born and raised in Plymouth, but spent every summer in Centerville from a baby through college at my Granma's house. My Aunt and other Uncles each had old homes on 6A.....:BangHead: Congrats on your finds!

Thanks Dave! This baby was found in Fall River- I haven't had much luck finding (non-beach) locations down here! I go back as often as possible to hunt the old parks in my old hometown..

You oughtta ask RemDog to hunt his place.....

not his kids place though....:dontknow:

Nice saves!

I was wondering, when they holed a coin like that, back then, did they spend the same?
Would seem to be a bit lighter. :)

Couldn't ya just see somebody saving up all those "donut holes" ? LOL :)

You could always ask me also [emoji50]

Great finds!

Hi Jeff, the mintmark is mexico city o/M.....Joe McDonough

Isn't that a Spanish half reale, minted in Mexico?

Very sweet finds, congrats!

Nice finds. Tony and I will definitely be over this Spring! I dug nickels #86 + 87 yesterday with a buff and a V. Also got a nice, heavy sterling religious medal. Hopefully can make it out again tomorrow.

Jeff, the peru coins would have a LIMA mintmark not a Mexico city mintmark.....Joe McDonough

That is a Mexico City.

Finding a reale in a park is phenomenal.

Wow Spanish silver In a park, absolutely incredible

Fantastic finds Jeff. Great job on the nice coins buddy

Nice trifecta of silver Jeff!!

Amazing day out you had there ! We all dream of a hunt like that .

Very nice hunt! I've hunted Fall River once, it is about an hour away from where I live. Tons of old parks there as you say. If you are ever looking for a partner let me know.
