truth or tall tales - only hunting for pirate treasure that really exist (aury)
lots of folks hear tales of pirate treasure that --- ______ buried --- x amount of ---- at _____ ---(fill in the blanks) but how to tell if their true treasure stories or made up hog wash?
how to tell ? its simple by using the three elements of truth !!!! that should be any real tresure hunters guide
they are as follows #1 was the person there / did the event happen and is there any written historical"proof" of it #2 was there actually any treasure to begin with and are there any historical records to show how much and what type it was? and last #3 are there any records that show it has been found / or taken way since then?
well heres just such a case - rumor has it that Luis Aury (pirate / or anti spanish freedom fighter depending on your point of view) stashed a large sum of money on Amelia Island , Florida in 1817.
Now how do we go about "proving" the case that the treasure did actaully exist and that aury was indeed here?
well there are historical records that Aury was here on the Island --in 1817 --he took over the Island in Oct 1817 and was removed from power two months later in Dec of 1817 by US forces --so he was there check number one
where did the $60,000 in money come from?---well its said that Aury took over a Spanish slave ship with 95 slaves aboard and that the money can from the sale of them -- well in the court records of the state of georgia --- there is record of a lawsuit --- it seems that the man that Aury sold the slaves to tried to smuggle then into american georgia ( where they would fetch 2,000 each --180,000 dollars or 3 times what he paid for them) however was illegal to do so --since the US Govt passed a law in 1803 that outlawed the farther importing of slaves from africa) when he was caught entering georgia with them the slaves were taken away and sold as per the govenor of georgias orders --well the original spanish slaveship owner found out and sued claiming his stolen "goods" (the slaves) should have been returned to him --- bowen the man who bought the slaves from Aury said he was merely transporting them to the western part of florida and that they had crossed the river to aviod --hostile persons and that he never intended for the slaves to stay in georgia and that he had a bill of sale ---for $60,000---that "proved" he came by them legally --- thus the money trail is proven -- the $60,000 did indeed exist and theres written proof of it --- the scandle and the fall out of it all cost the govenor of georgia his job---so check number two
plus Aury allowed other pirate to sell stolen spanish goods in the port for a 1 / 6 th cut of the price --that is an unknown amount of extra added money .
finally is the treasure still there ? --- well it seems that in dec of 1817 when us forces caught Aury on Amelia Island --no money was recorded as taken at the time -- Aury was held for a month --but the US Govt could not press any charges that would stick to him legally --so the booted him off the Island and told him to "git and stay gone --on pain of death if he should return" --so off he went on his vessel broke --- 3 years later Aury dies of a broken neck after being thrown from a horse --having never returned to the Island -- so Aury left broke -- theres no report of any money taken with him when he left --and he did not get to return for it -- so looking at the "real" facts theres a very high chance of Aury's treasure being buried some where on Amelia Island --thats check number three
all three elemnts are there --was the person or did the event happen there? -- yes ---- was there really any treasure in the first place? --yes --- has it been found or removed ---no
thus it is a real yet to be found "true" treasure
and thats how you sort fact from fiction because fact based treasures are the only ones that are really worth your time and effort to seek out . --- hoped you enjoyed this tale--- Ivan
