English or not, tell us some of the words/letters you can read. I can't make anything out in the photos.

the first word under the face reads from left to right cafvt.s.anass.i.sfi.pnns.h.the cross side reads from top left to right STMUK.ET.MAP.TCUJUAXIEC.FU.CAR AND THATS ALL I CAN GET OFF THAT SIDE BESIDES THE CROSS IN THE CENTER.VERY STRANGE PIECE. :dontknow:

Working on it but it's tough.

I think the first letters are CAPVT - Latin for the head or chief or ruler or something like that... The other "words" are probably abbreviations. Are you 100% sure about the letters? Can you provide any better pics?

i think ur right on the capvt.these are the best pics i got from many scans.as far as the letters i am not positive.it's very tough to read even with a magnifying glass.but then again i'm not positive about anything with this thing.

Can you measure it just to see if its 41x46 mm?

It may not be the exact religious medal that I found but it may put us on the right track. I want to thank Matt for the Capvt.

I think the front represents POPE ANASTASIUS I or II (CAPVT.S.ANASTASI) but I don't know which one or why.

Maybe the back will have clue.

They made millions of different Catholic medals and they are almost impossible to find an exact match. Sometimes matching one side is all you can do because there are so many variations..

I wonder what this means "face with one eye missing?" Could this be your bearded man?

If you can provide a better pic of the back, I'll look at this a little more.

Take the pic on a dark background. Use the macro setting if your camera has one. If not, use a magnifying glass.

I dont think it was dcmatt that said that, but could you post the links of the similar ones you found, as a normal follow-up to the research? Just curious is the bearded man the pope?

Hi good people

Sorry about my bad english.I'm new here on TreausureNet.I found your site on internet because i look for some informations about medal which my uncle find on the work on cornfield ca. 40 years ago in old Yugoslavia-Sauth Europe.
Did somebody know who is on this medal frontside and what is the meaning on the pic on the rear side? ( 5 Womens in the Fire look to the Sky and on the sky is the Cross with many pots??? )

Did somebody know more about medals like this one???

Greetings from Balkan
