I'm getting a Vaquero but I'm not sure which coil to go with. I relic hunt a large area, 10-15 acres that is, in mild to moderate soil with lots of power lines. I'm mainly looking for max. depth. So which coil, the 11x8 or the 9x8, would best fit these conditions? I appreciate any advice.

I own a Vaquero and I am running the 11x8 coil. I have had other Vaquero's in the past with the 9x8. IMHO the 11x8 is a deeper coil. the only down side to the 11x8 coil is it likes bottle caps, but if your relic hunting it should work great.

Get the 11x10. I have both.

11" x 8" Widescan, everyday, all day. :skullflag:

Get the 11x8 for no other reason than it's cheaper down the road. You need both coils, buying the 11x8 now and a 9x8 later is more cost effective.....imho

Sounds good folks. Looks like the 11x8 is up.

If it was me, Id get the 11x8 for relics and later on get the 5 3/4 concentric for other targets.

The 5 3/4 is deep on the Vaquero.

Those are the only two you'll need with a Vaquero.

Thanks steve1357 I'll keep that in mind.

I will second that notion as well all one needs is the 11x8 and 5.75 con, but to add to those if you have the 9x8 on your Vaq right now don't go rushing out and buy the 11x8 as well, you most certainly can if money is no object certainly will give you increased depth from what you are asking here..but instead just opt for the 5.75 con as well until you see how well the 9x8 really even when S'Tuned. In your case grab the 11x8 and later for sure the 5.75 con.

For those that even have the 9x8 already, I have heard that the 5.75 concentric is keeping up to depth just like the 9x8 is that true..I imagine the 9x8 would still gain and 1 and 1 1/2 in most conditions though would anyone agree?

No one mentioned the 12"x10" DD WIDESCAN Coil ??

don't own one yet..

I haven't tried that one on either the 4 or 5 pin machines. I rarely hunt the areas where I can use a coil that size. Too big to swing around bushes and too big for trashy spots. Wouldn't mind having one to look at though. :tongue3:

I like both.
In bad soil the 11x8 can be more stable. But in my soil the 9x8 does just fine.
Either way you're good but many love the 11x8

I have the 11x8 9x 8 and 5 3/4.

Well, I ordered the V with the 11x8 coil today. Thank all of you for your advice and comments. Wish me luck.

Happy hunting!
I know you want to do mostly open areas, but if you find yourself in nails and small iron trash, you'll want to have that 5.75" concentric coil too. :icon_thumright:
