Hi All

Its been awhile since I've posted anything. I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this post, but it seemed the best place to start.
I'm looking at two new underwater detectors. And I was wondering if anyone has used them and what they liked and didn't like.
The first machine is the new hybrid cobra beach and second is the hybrid viper trident. I have a Minelab Excal 1000. Have lots of issues with it has been sent back to Minelab twice in the last 4 years. Any thoughts on the two machines I've listed would be appreciated.

Hi Roxy, I usually don't visit this section but have knowledge of these detectors from Kellyco. You would be lots better off with a water and beach detector from one of the major manufactures like Garrett, Tesoro, White's or Fisher instead. Oh, they work after a fashion, but there are no good reports on them except they are cheap.

If you are wanting a detector for saltwater beaches I can recommend the Excal 1000 which I also have. The Fisher CZ-21 and if not going in the water, the White's BHID. Only the White's coil floats like a cork and I found it tiring holding it down. But you can add a sand filled sock for weight and take it off when wanting to do the dry sand.

Then you have the Pulse detectors like the White's Dual Field (floating coil), Tesoro's Sand Shark which is excellent, and the Garrett's Infinium LS and Sea Hunter MK II. Both of these are very good too. Take note that pulse detectors have very little disc regardless what they say so you can tire yourself out digging deep holes for a hairpin, but they also find gold rings way deeper than other detectors. If you don't need to go underwater more than 10' deep, the Garrett AT Pro might be a good choice. I have only used mine on land & think it's the best overall of dozens I've owned. They got the bugs out in March & offer a reasonable price upgrade on older ones that includes warranty extension.

I don't think I could recommend those Chinese ones, as other Chinese models I've had are fair at best. But I admit I haven't had the 2 you mention. You can probably find some online reviews with search engine. Best wishes & HH, George (MN)
