Trying to Determine Style of Axe head and maybe age?

I found this axe head and the scissors at the Same site I found my 1837 Draped bust dime. Just looking for proper name of Axe head and maybe age of it's use.

P.S. sorry for the pics, just took them and posted on my way out the door for work.

It looks more like a hatchet to me, and I can't help with actual name for it, but that style has been around since the early - mid 1800's. If you go to Liberty Rifles neat research site, and scroll down to the axes and hatchets, you will see one that dates to the Civil War.

Look closely along the bottom for a notch like those in the pictures IS posted. If there is a notch then it is a shingle hatchet. The ones like IS posted with what appears to be the square notches for pulling square nails are generally older than ones with a V shaped groove for pulling round nails.

If there is no notch it may be a lipstick tube :dontknow:

I'm pretty sure it's an axe and looks not at all like a lipstick tube :laughing7: I did however find a lipstick tube once and had a hard time making ID on same ;D
