I've been going to Sissonville High School for quit some time now. The only problems with this school in sanitation with toilets, hand soap, and prevention of germs. Every 2 months in the winter we go through a huge flu, cold, and virus outbreaks. I for one am sick of it! I've been sick about 5 times this year mainly with a cold. The last time I got sick I thought of a way to make the school maybe more safe against large outbreaks of colds, trust me everyone gets sick, not just me. I came up with the plan to put up hand sanitizer stations around the school in about 5 places. Looked into the whole thing and some companies provide everything for free for public schools. I told my principal, who is new, about the whole thing and he said it was a great idea. He also told me that I should talk to the school organizer about the idea. So I did and he also thought it was a great idea. Thing was, they wanted me to do everything. Pretty much do everything. I said no I would not, every other school except for ours has hand sanitizer stations in their school, for even about every 500 feet in their school. For Christ sake even restaurants have hand sanitizer stations. I didn't tell this to their face, but I figured maybe they thought it was such a good idea that maybe they would get off their butts and maybe try to figure this out on their own.
Months go by and I hear nothing back, nor do I see stations set up anywhere. Better yet in the main bathrooms that runs through about 200+ kids a day started running out of soap and paper towels, mainly because kids would steal it. I also had after school band practices going till 6:00PM sometimes . I noticed that I would use the bathroom at lunch and there would be either no soap or paper towels or even both at times and I would have to skip washing my hands, which is bad. With no other choice I would walk around with dirty hands all day. So during band practice I would come back once the janitors left and I would use the bathroom again and STILL find that there was no soap or paper towels. What the ^&%( are these people thinking. I'm not a huge germ freak or anything and I know if your going to get sick your going to get sick. But for heavens sake you could maybe prevent it a little bit better.
So if you would now like to contact the Kanawha County Schools and tell them how you feel about 400+ being sick all the time then go right ahead.

Learn to put them on the spot call your local t.v station for a human interest story. write a letter then 2 then 3 then???? It works keep up the presser. Or get organized and have a bunch of you to write.

Kid, I taught school for 30 years and never was in a school bathroom that always had toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer or towels. Figured it was a way of life. Student or teacher bathrooms were the same. At least in the teachers lounge bathroom, the women teachers would supply that stuff. Maybe because we were inner city. Don't know, it just sucked. We were like you. We had cold and flu outbreaks every year. Teachers and students dropping like flies. And get this. The bathroom next to my room was for boys, but they would come to class and always ask to go, but they went way down the hall to another part of the school. Finally I said, "What's wrong with the one next door"? They asked if I had ever been in there. I went to look and saw 6 toilets, one right after the other, with no stalls, no privacy and 6 sinks in front of them. Guess you made new friends or had someone to talk to while you went. I had to laugh then and I feel your pain now. Your Principal is as full of crap as ours was. But take heart. College bathrooms are much nicer and it could be worse, you could have been born 100 years ago and be using an outhouse. I solved the problem for my students though. Kept rolls of TP in class(they took a roll with them) and supplied soap and hand sanitizer to the kids. Gave extra credit for ones who brought a box of kleenex or some other supplies. Worked out great. Talk to a teacher, set something up with them. Good luck...

Take note French creek hunter, using hand sanitizer all the time isnt good for you.Your skin needs certain bacteria in order for you to remain healthy.

Public schools have always been and will likely always be in short supply of everything

I think you should follow Onfire's advice about contacting a TV station - it may help your school and you will likely learn a few things along the way.

Meanwhile, I'd suggest you replace rolls of TP at home before they are empty and carry a couple of the almost depleted rolls in your backpack in case there isn't any public paper when you need it.

I believe there is just NFB in schools now a days.

Typically, each Unified School District has a weekly, bi- weekly or monthly Board Meetings open to the public.

Attend these meetings and air your complaint in a quiet respectful manner. Have at least a dozen or so students (Student Body Council Officers, etc) and parents address the Board.

Possibly file petition with signatures of students, parents and tax payers.

If there are no actions taken by the Board, then it's time protest with signs...contact newspapers, radio and tv for coverage of the issue...

State Board of Education may also be informed of the conditions...

State Health Department is another avenue...as is Senators and Reps...

use the system and avoid anything militant...
