I was gifted this object at a civil war convention today by an seller. He said he didn’t know what it was and that he didn’t have a price set for it. It caught my eye because of the twisting pattern. Does anyone know anything about this object? Or what it’s purpose was? A date maybe? Thanks!! A3D215BA-9D11-4434-9EEC-ADEBE34673BA.webp

Nice!!! Congrats!!!!

I thought it was pretty cool looking! And it’s hand forged. I think it may be a pot hanger of some sort. I found an example of one from the 1700’s. Mine doesn’t appear to be that old of course. I would say maybe mid-late 1800’s? Still very cool. And it was free (;B4D0FB94-D0EA-4296-A797-6D90F0073295.webp

That may very well be the case that it is a loop for hanging but it looks to be new, might be a flint striker maybe, but a hanging loop is what i would bet on.

It's definitely a forged piece but it doesn't look that old...it wasn't dug in my opinion.
