I got out for about 4 hours today. Where to you ask? Where else. The field that I am now referring to as the magic copper field.

The first 20 minutes or so were uneventful. Then i dug this strange object. Key?? Not really sure.

Next find was one of three Indian head pennies I dug today. The are all corroded and I cant get dates off any of them yet. They are soaking as I type. Here are the three IH's.

I then proceed over to a field adjacent to this one. I was only in this field for about 10 minutes. The grass was just too high to hunt effectively. I did manage to find a buckle (suspender buckle?) in this field.

Throughout the course of the day I dug alot of farm junk/relics and even managed to find a few bottles in the woods.

I then changed my heading and began walking toward the other end of the first field. There is another field on the other side of this one so I decided to hunt in that field for a while. I'm glad I did. I hit a few flat buttons here.

The next find was my best find of the day. (second best find of the year.) My second 1786 Vermont colonial copper. When I dug it I thought it was a large cent. Here is a picture of the coin in the hole.

I continued to think it was a large cent until I got it home and began to soak it in olive oil. If you look at these next pictures carefully you can clearly (well almost clearly) see the words VERMON and AUCTORI on the obverse of the coin on either side of the bust. The third picture is of the reverse. You can make out the seated woman with her staff and you can see the line on the bottom of the coin that the date is below. (cant quite make out the date yet. coin is still soaking.) I checked my 2008 Red Book and came to this conclusion (I'm not an expert so this is a guess being that I can read the writing) I believe I have a 1786 (only year this coin was made) Baby Head Vermont colonial coppa.
If this coin were in the same condition as my other Vermont it would be worth more but it is clearly in worse condition. Hope you enjoyed the post. Thanks for looking.
