Two oddities and a weird bullet

I've been digging a trove of civil war goodies in my yard over the past couple of months, but I did these up yesterday and no-one can identify these for me. The bullet, for starters -what happened to it? It's the first I've dug like it. I dug the ring and thought it a modern washer until I saw the decorative inside edge. The last piece used to be tube like and is covered with little starburst designs. I'm on baby duty at the moment, but I will take a better picture or two as soon as I get a free moment. Thanks!

The bullet, for starters -what happened to it?

It was fired and hit something very hard, thus the state it lays in now. Weigh it on a scale and post up the weight and it might narrow down the ID. The other like doublet2a stated looks like a lipstick tube, and the other item (the outer ring) possible part of a rosette.

Thanks for the input! The bullet is a .58, but I'm confused about how the tip is intact but the base is smashed like that. I really hope the last piece is a bridle rosette. I've been looking for a piece like that!

Sometimes if a bullet travels a long distance it will tumble With a 50 50 chance of hitting either end .But to me yours looks like it is a drop and at one time it has been hot and melted. Can you show us a photo of the base.

It sure looks like it hit something hard while tumbling. That would hurt and then some.

Your .58-caliber 3-groove Minie-ball with undamaged front-end and impact-damaged back-end most likely was fired into a forested area, and passed through several trees' "canopy" of small branches and leaves as it flew, which caused it to tumble end-over-end, and then it smacked butt-first against a rock.
