🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Two piece underwear button?

Found in a known civil war site. It resembles a VMI type of underwear button, but I can not exactly confirm that. Lettering is faded. What I can read is "Pat'd" at the top and "I"....

Not sure if this is how you link a thread, but I found something similar but yours appears to be older judging by the lettering on the back just a hunch I’m no expert but maybe some past responses will help
