Hey Truth, it's possible that the bullet has partially melted. Or was cut into by a bored Soldier.
The other thing is a head scratcher. It clearly looks like lead and a square nail. It will be interesting to find out.

Hey relic nut I can’t find anything on lead square nails and it’s 100% lead it’s huge. Never seen anything like it.

Maybe lead nails were used to temporarily spike cannon.

Two very interesting finds! :dontknow:

Friend of mine’s thought:
“That's really sweet, is think that it was formed by pouring lead into a former nails hole, then the wood rotted away... Otherwise it would have been too soft to use for nailing... Probably just bored in camp... But real cool”

Your bullet is definitely post Civil War and likely from the early to mid 1900s. It looks identical to ones I've fired into the blade of an axe doing trick shots. It has rifling down the side, so it was fired for sure.

That’s exactly what I thought about the axe.

Pouring lead into an old nail hole sounds exactly like something I would do bored out of my cranium

I think he shoved it in the ground an then poured it in there, if it was wood I think I could see the wood texture.

I agree, it was a fired bullet, not a cut one.

I've seen small lead nails, never one that size!

Have dug a couple lead nails though only the size of a regular square nail, nothing like the size of the spike you got. Congrats on the recovery.

That nail is cool as hell.

leadspike.webpi found a lead square spike and could never figure out what it could be used for until i tried writing with it. works great as a pencil !

I dont know, but they are both interesting.

The bullet could have been intentionally cut. It also could have hit something sharp and split. Nobody will ever know. The spike like lead thing is interesting for sure. Looks like someone pounded on the top. Not going to get far with lead though. Strange for sure

One of a kind I guess.
