could you post a pic of the back/front of the alleged coin? im not seeing anything? and could you point out where you are seeing these words?

First pic is the coin. It says "Maria Dei" around 1 oclock. The back is toast. Second pic is button.

The Rev War was long past before these two items hit the ground.

The button is post-Rev War, from around the 1820-1830 period. The design is purely floral decorative, without a military connotation. I have dug similar floral design one-piece flat buttons, with nearly the exact same flower motif. The convex shape on your example points to a later design, nearing the 1830's.

I'm not real sure about the "coin". It appears to possibly be a very well worn George III penny of about 1797 or later. The impressed wording around the rim for a George III coin of the era would read: GEORGIUS III D. G. REX

I think you got it. "Maria" over their heads it's Irish, if down the right side, British.
