I visited a local farmers field right by a highway a couple days ago. I wasn't expecting much as I was mainly digging up various modern trash. I almost gave up after 3 hours and wanted to mark it as a junk field, but to my surprise I found two silver coins in one plug. Upon further inspection I saw that they were formed into buttons.

1/2 Lira 1822/23

That must of been exciting after nothing but junk. That’s what makes this hobby addicting

Those are a couple of nice coin / button finds.

I was really shocked. I didn't cover even close to the entire field. I just chose a straight line a few meters from the treeline. I was already prepared to dig up another can or mason jar lid. Very pleasantly surprised.

Very nice!! Like OldSean said...that’s what makes this hobby so great. Getting blanked for three hours, teased with trash and then BOOM! Looks like you might have to get back there soon and hit that tree line. Not only are those lira almost 200 years old, they’ve been re-purposed into buttons.. (somebody around there had some money to literally play with). Congrats on a couple awesome finds. Great save! Ddf.

Very nice finds! I have found three 18th century Spanish half reals that had been made into buttons or cufflinks . One still had the shank on, the other two had been put back into circulation and the nubs where the shanks were are worn smooth.
