Wow...you can sure see why the ancient chose that piece for his scraper...that bullseye is a beaut.

Did you find the pestile/head knocker in a field?

That paleo is really worn down...sweet find.

Nice finds Ryan. That material on the Scraper is sweet. I love that bullseye with the quartz inclusion. Very cool. The Pestle is neat looking too. Hard to find Stone Tools that big that aren't beat all to pieces or broken. Looks like a good hunt.

Nice Bullseye scraper!

Thanks man, I won't speak for other areas but around here the majority of small scrapers are made of tasty materials. High grade pieces often with harder quartz for heavy use imo.

The pestle, cqc weapon was found in a field above a river, kicked it out of the mud and spoiled an insitu. Thought it was another river rock.

Appreciate the comments Steve and Newt.

I found some other things from the same hunt that I'll post soon.

Yesterdays hunt

Here's some more insitus of yesterdays four mile hunt, covered some ground for sure. It's been awhile since I found a triangle like this one. Also found a couple bifurcates a sweet little sunfish Armstrong, and a couple archaic bevels with unfortunate base dings, some heartbreakers and other tools as well. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting folks.

Love that scraper. Got a lot of charecter too it. :icon_thumright:

I agree I like the bull's eye on the scraper. Those are some nice pieces.

Pretty stuff !

around here the majority of small scrapers are made of tasty materials.

Likely, IMHO, because it was only available in small (glacial) cobbles.

The one with the long wings sharpened way down to a stub (blue with whiter speckles) is very interesting material. A type of blue flintridge ? Reason I ask is there's a late paleo endscraper of it that came from NW Ohio on the Michigan border. Seems to be pretty well-traveled material, whatever it is. (?)

It is nice when you find an area wherein you can expect to find artifacts. Those areas are really never hunted out. Nice pictures and good specimens.

Congrats

Thanks, I'm curious about that material, I think I have a couple pieces of debitage that match it but it's very rare among chert types found around here. I'll just post a close up instead of trying to describe it. I wouldn't call it flintridge. There are many varieties of lithic types in the karst valleys I hunt. I'm also right beside two major trade routes, one east - west, the other north - south. Lack of research ( mostly 1940 and earlier ) only adds to the confusion.

Killer hunt 37. Bunch of goodies. I have not seen material with that color of specks. What are you typing that point as? I have one similiar to it. Any peck wear on the large hoe/head knocker?
Great scrapper and triangle. Nice finds for sure.

Thanks Stryker , appreciate your response.I'm fortunate to live in an area that regularly gives up artifacts from the past. Regards, Ryan

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone H.H

I'd say it's an Armstrong, a WV type, kind of an off the radar woodland type.

There's some wear use and pecking evidence on the large tool, all four sides are squared or leveled as well.

That's a sweet point there, Lost Lake? Appreciate the comments, good luck hunting.

I had typed it as a lost lake style. I am not sure now though :icon_scratch:
Thanks.

That is a cool pestle.
Is this form common?
I've never seen one like it.

I'm not sure, it's not rounded like typical pestles but squared off on the sides and has plenty of usewear on the larger, wider end. Imo it could have another purpose.
