I found this today at an old house site that's been plowed over near Lebanon Ohio. My buddy got a super nice War of 1812 Eagle button there last year, but nothing CW. Ive never found one, but this looks like a box plate to me although it doesn't have any nail holes...anyone have an idea of what it may be?

I think it is.From what I've heard,if they were low on bullets, they would take the lead back off to melt.

I've found several plate skins like this in fire pits. It could have been a buckle or a box plate, hard to tell with the lead melted out, but a very nice find which ever one it was.

Nice find, even (or especially, depending on how you look at it) with the lead backing gone.

Great find neighbor.
