I found what seems to be a U.S. civil war era belt buckle from an old homesite. The pieces were recovered from the same area. The brass pieces are "skin", without a lead backing. The arrowhead style hook retains some lead. I'm speculating that the buckle is a "baby buckle', but I'm sure others will have a better idea. I would like to get it restored to one piece if possible. I would appreciate the names of people that could restore the piece of history. Thanks!

I LIKE THE LOOK IT HAS NOW. IT SHOWS THE HISTORY IT HAS BEEN THRU FOR 150 YEARS. . SURE HAS THE OLD WHITE LEAD OXIDATION ON IT, LOOKS REALLY COOL. THATS A NEAT FIND DIGGER AND IM NOT BASHING YOUR DECISION TO HAVE IT RESTORED.

There is a guy I believe name Leonard Short that is well known for doing Revolutionary and Civil War buckles and buttons. Guy is amazing. Pm me if you want further info

Leonard short is amazing at what he does. He's got a button of mine I've been waiting on for a while , but sadly he is no longer taking new restorations only finishing up what he already has. One other guy I've heard is good Roland frodigh.

Thanks all for the advice. Tough decision. The pieces were essentially in the same hole. Interesting to think about why someone destroyed the buckle.

That is a "Baby" Plate a. a great find indeed. I would look up Robert McDaniel in Alabama. He does Excellent work. As far as restoring... its totally your call as it is in Your collection. Good luck.

Leonard's getting out of the restoration business, at least for now, so you'll need to find an alternate source.
