I had nowhere to go so I went back to my grandpa's house that was built in 1950. I didn't expect much maybe a silver rosie or merc that I had missed before when I hunted it 3 yrs ago. This is a very small yard in town, all the houses were built in the 1950's on his street.

I had over half the front yard done without even a clad coin, and then I get a real deep dime signal that is buried on the depth meter of my etrac. I am thinking why a dime would be so deep at a 1950 house, I walk all around it and it sounds sweet from all directions. I dug down about 9-10 inches and I see a silver disk. I am thinking maybe a merc, so I grab some water pour it on the dime and I see "one dime" on the back. I think, cool a barber, then flip it over and I see a beautiful SEATED lady!!!! :hello2: :laughing7:
1889 seated dime!

I am almost speechless....I then found a very worn 1887 indian about 3 feet away, and a flat button in the same small area......nothing else old in the yard was found except for a wheat penny, and it was 1957.

I found the St. Christopher medallion around the back of the house. I am still in total amazement. You just NEVER know where your going to find something! I love this hobby!!!

My grandpa told me when those houses were originally built it was just a farm field......possibly an old house was close?? But his yard is almost iron free, so who knows?? I am just happy to find it!! :hello2:

I love that early silver. Sweet find!

Sweet silver surprises keep us going, Wtg on the seated dime.

Great looking finds!!

Most houses are built where other houses were once standing, especially in town.

I've found as many good things in the yards of houses built in the last 60 years as I have in the yards of 100 year old places.

Maybe because folks look at the older places and overlook the "newer" ones?

Lots of things from the "Civil War" are hiding in yards of homes where there were only fields back then!

Anyway, Cool finds!

Very nice dime find buddy! :icon_thumright:
All I dug in my backyard was a deck screw and a coaxial cable connector! :laughing7:

Great find G4E! Looks like you had a great day! :icon_thumright:

That is a nice unexpected find.

I have had it happen to me to but it is rare. I dug a 1820 large cent in a yard from a house built in 1937. You just never know. Makes your day though.

My gosh! Nice seated. I sure NEED to dig one of those. If I don't this year I might explode. :help:

I guess that one picture was of the button.....the one with the letters surrounding something. That thing is very interesting. You will have to post it on the "Whatz It" forum and see if someone can tell you more about it. Well done bud.
